I'm guessing he claims to have the understanding necessary to make a good business case but isn't prepared to use it, rather he's just writing letters 'demanding' something be done.

Is this the real John Coyle though? Sorry to be doubtful, but I believe that the real person with that name seems to have a reasonable grasp of issues when the odd legit message comes up in aus.rail.

But the newsgroup still has too many flipwits (ie. script-kiddies!) posting useless drivel because they've got it in their head that everyone disagrees with them (hello Andy B!).

Maybe, but the heritage groups are not the ones that invest in rail infrastructure which actually allows trains to run.

We won't see serious investment in passenger rail outside big cities unless the cost of petrol rises massively and the costs of other fuels stays high as well.
