General Info About This Website

In the year 1987 I commenced
employment with what was then known as the State Rail Authority. In
1990 I transferred to the train crewing area with the freight
operation of State Rail which was then semi-corporatised as
FreightRail...
I've always had a passing interest in trains's mostly because of influences
earlier in life and because of my fascination with all things mechanical and
the interesting technologies that go along 'for the ride'!
Since 1993 I'd had some rudimentary websites in place based on my
various interests. My original
railway website was actually part of a dial-up railway bulletin-board
system (aka BBS) called Possum Power Tank
BBS, and when full-time Internet connections became affordable in the
early 1990's my original railway
website was set up. This website, when first created, was part of that
site until 2004 when I created what is now the seperate entity known
as RailZone Australia (originally it was just called The
RailZone).
To see where I've tried to position RailZone Australia in amongst the
growing online rail-transport enthusiast presence, please read our mission and purpose to find out about our aims and
goals for this website.
There are a number of different types of discussion
forums available which you are most welcome to join! These include the
free web-based online
forums, the Australian
Rail Safety mailing list, and the Australian prototype
railway modelling webring. All these facilities are provided so
you can share your stories, experiences, technical skills and knowledge,
etc. with other railway enthusiasts and railway modellers!
An aspect which is sure to appeal to you (even if you're not currently a
railway enthusiast or railway modeller), is the image
galleries (also reachable here). Feel free to
register as a gallery member and upload images for inclusion
in your galleries if you have railway-related material to share!

All donations (either one-time or through a plan) are set in Australian
dollars, and all funds raised through donations will be used to improve
the hardware and comms services that support the site.

It became clear to me that with the Internet 'maturing', there was a
need for an unbiased, public-access railway-focused site in
Australia. The only other sites existing at the time were RailPage (which is anything but
unbiased or totally public-access any more!) and several others like
Tony Bailey's excellent RailMedia site (which is still
excellent and a credit to Tony's dedication).www.railzone.org - forums.railzone.org - galleries.railzone.org
